I think this is because they know what it is like to suffer and want to help out whenever they can. Orwell and his companions, both in Paris and London, were very generous with each other when one came upon a good situation. I found the bonds they made quite remarkable and I think that when in a situation as dire as theirs's those bonds become stronger than in a normal situation due to how much they relied upon each other for things like food, work, and shelter. He describes relationships with people in similar situations. During his time is Paris he lives in a shabby apartment where avoiding the landlord and rent were two near daily activities. At one point he describes experience in a brothel which sounds as disturbing and disappointing as you would imagine. ![]() He describes a pretty grim and disgusting life and some dark places where dark things would happen. In the book he starts with his time in Paris. It was first published in 1933 and is an eye opening work that shows the underbelly of poverty that so many lived as a part of in these two great cities. Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell is a memoir of his time of extreme poverty living in both Paris and London. ![]()
